Mickayla Blue 4/17/2023 7:09 AMYesterday was our Pollinator Party and I learned SO MUCH! My favorite flowers are magnolias. Those are pollinated by beetles. They actually pollinate the flowers when they are closed, rather than when they are open. -
Mickayla Blue 4/15/2023 8:33 AMTomorrow is our Pollinator Party at the Shreveport Aquarium! Come out Noon-3 to celebrate all things pollinators! It's going to be the bee's knees! -
Mickayla Blue 4/12/2023 2:17 PMWant to do a little sustainable crafting? I found some cool origami patterns from WWF. I made the turtle yesterday with some paper I had lying around. There are lots of cool animals. Here's the link! https://www.worldwildlife.org/pages/origami-patterns -
Mickayla Blue 4/11/2023 9:33 AMToday was Trashy Tuesday at the Shreveport Aquarium! We picked up 19 pounds of trash today in only 30 minutes! That is 19 pounds of trash that stayed out of the Red River. Did you know that if trash gets into the Red River, it is only a 4 day float from the ocean? -
Mickayla Blue 4/09/2023 2:46 PMToday we went around and discussed our animals with the Edutainment staff. The coolest fact I learned is that Bat Stars are very brightly colored to ward off predators. This makes the predators think they are poisonous. Our edutainers are amazing! I always learn something new when I talk with them. -
Mickayla Blue 4/07/2023 1:14 PMCheck out this cool video! We're all concerned about bees, but this video tells us we may, in fact, be saving the wrong kind of bees. Even though wild bee populations have gone down, honey bee populations have gone up. A very interesting watch. I'm very excited for the Pollinator Party at the Shreveport Aquarium on Sunday, April 16th. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSYgDssQUtA -
Mickayla Blue 4/04/2023 12:57 PMI did a field trip today and the kids were very interested in the poison dart frogs. I mentioned that they are not poisonous currently, because of their diet. They made the connection to "you are what you eat." This made them question their own eating choices. They decided takis were not the best option for them. -
Mickayla Blue 4/03/2023 10:00 AMEric and I watched the Purple Martins this morning. They were very active (probably hunting for bugs)! We encourage everyone to see them as they are coming in! -

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhat are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time inside and on screens?
