WSP - Emerge Program

Spend 15 minutes learning about the Emerge Program at WSP. Emerge is WSP's strategic alliance program that seeks early-stage companies with novel solutions as strategic partners. Partners get access to in-house subject matter experts, an opportunity to pilot their products/technologies with WSP during the evaluation phase and have access to our client base. Emerge propels our partners by accelerating the product/technology adoption. Having recently launched our 4th cohort, Emerge has accelerated a number of companies whose mission aligns with UN SDGs. • Olokun Minerals • ecoSPEARS • PLAEX Building Systems

Support Local Pollinators

SDG 15

At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators to produce fruit. I will plant pollinator-friendly plants in my area to support local pollinators.

Ecological & Xeriscape Gardening

SDG 14, 15

Studies show a grass lawn is water intensive and on average it require about 30 percent of a household’s water consumption. I will do one or more of the following actions in my yard or community to conserve water and improve habitat: plant indigenous plants, landscape with water-efficient plants, add mulching, replace a lawn, and/or use eco-friendly fertilizers.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Basic Needs & Security
What is one way you will reduce your water use? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your water use?

    Edward Campbell's avatar
    Edward Campbell 4/11/2023 11:44 AM
Simple - use mulch when planting trees and garden plants; take showers instead of baths; store rainfall to use in garden during dry periods; monitor weather - to depend as much as possible on natural rain events to water in new plantings
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Climate & Ecosystems
What was a linking factor across this group of SDGs?

    Edward Campbell's avatar
    Edward Campbell 4/05/2023 1:42 PM
A linking factor is climate change -triggered by CO2 increase - plus pollution through plastic _ CO2 increase will impact plants and forests drive temperatures resulting in bigger nature events - storms, fires, etc.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Education & Livelihood
How does practicing a work-life balance create a more sustainable life for you? How might it contribute to sustainability more broadly?

    Edward Campbell's avatar
    Edward Campbell 4/04/2023 12:30 PM
Where ever I am work life balance is key - long walks to mechanized trips and also is relaxing - weekends find me in the meadow planting native grasses and re-establishing native habits that benefit native birds and animals. Native grasses also have very deep root systems that prevent erosion and loss of soil in the meadow during rain events
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Climate & Ecosystems
Why is art an important way for you to express sustainability values?

    Edward Campbell's avatar
    Edward Campbell 4/04/2023 12:18 PM
Express is action to me - so removing invasive grasses and plants - and allowing the natural grasses and plants to emerge supplementing with other results in food for native birds and mammals - stream restoration creates fish habitat
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Climate & Ecosystems
How can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place? Was there a new place in your region that was exciting to learn about and visit?

    Edward Campbell's avatar
    Edward Campbell 4/04/2023 12:15 PM
More time outdoors can connect you spiritually to nature and gain a sense of the interconnectivity of all. Water Falls - mountain streams with deep pools/ beaver dams / and spring forest wildflowers and ephemerals are beautiful and really neat to discover
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Climate & Ecosystems
How has your access to various kinds of transportation throughout your life influenced your current attitudes about transportation and your transportation behavior?

    Edward Campbell's avatar
    Edward Campbell 4/04/2023 12:12 PM
Love to Walk and be close to where I need to go - Transit - second option - in rural areas the automobile is still very much needed
