WSP - Emerge Program

Spend 15 minutes learning about the Emerge Program at WSP. Emerge is WSP's strategic alliance program that seeks early-stage companies with novel solutions as strategic partners. Partners get access to in-house subject matter experts, an opportunity to pilot their products/technologies with WSP during the evaluation phase and have access to our client base. Emerge propels our partners by accelerating the product/technology adoption. Having recently launched our 4th cohort, Emerge has accelerated a number of companies whose mission aligns with UN SDGs. • Olokun Minerals • ecoSPEARS • PLAEX Building Systems

SDG 10

Each day, I will track my purchases to identify my spending habits. This will allow me to see what purchases can be reduced.

COMPLETED 3

Spend Time Outside

SDG 3

I will replace 15 minute(s) per day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside exercising, enjoying the sunrise/sunset, gardening, journaling, or practicing gratitude for nature.

COMPLETED 15
DAILY ACTIONS

Basic Needs & Security

Reduce Animal Product Consumption

SDG 2

One kilogram of beef and cheese emits 71kg and 24kg of greenhouse gasses, while 1kg of rice, grains, and legumes emits between 2-4kg. Fruits, vegetables, and nuts emit less than 1kg per 1kg. I will reduce my climate impact by enjoying 1 meatless meals and/or 0 vegan meals each day this week.

COMPLETED 13
DAILY ACTIONS

Economy & Communities

Create A Readiness Plan

SDG 9

Each day, I will spend time developing a readiness plan for my household in the event of an emergency.

COMPLETED 6
DAILY ACTIONS

Climate & Ecosystems

Ecological & Xeriscape Gardening

SDG 14, 15

Studies show a grass lawn is water intensive and on average it require about 30 percent of a household’s water consumption. I will do one or more of the following actions in my yard or community to conserve water and improve habitat: plant indigenous plants, landscape with water-efficient plants, add mulching, replace a lawn, and/or use eco-friendly fertilizers.

Do you plan on having much engagement with your office green team?

I hope to be able to work with my office green team on future projects
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Education & Livelihood
What's your opinion on the Climate Transition Plan?

    Linda Chamberlain's avatar
    Linda Chamberlain 4/25/2023 5:48 AM
I think it would be amazing if more companies reflected on this we could make a great change in our impacts on the environment.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Climate & Ecosystems
Do you think YellowTin will be useful?

    Linda Chamberlain's avatar
    Linda Chamberlain 4/20/2023 11:25 AM
For my family, no, but that's because I teach environmental science and so we have the education and change items as we can.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Economy & Communities
What did you watch, and what was the most important thing you learned in the documentaries you watched? How does what you learned connect to your understanding of climate change and Earth Month?

    Linda Chamberlain's avatar
    Linda Chamberlain 4/18/2023 12:13 PM
I watched the "World's Water Crisis" on Netflix. One of the most important things I learned about what the way we use irrigation. We use it to grow crops in places they shouldn't be grown in because they require too much water for that area. The overuse of water for irrigation leads to water pollution and lack of access for millions.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Climate & Ecosystems
What ecological or xeriscape landscaping practices do you have? How has your landscape changed from these practices?

    Linda Chamberlain's avatar
    Linda Chamberlain 4/12/2023 8:09 AM
We have planted native plants in our garden and are planning to turn our garden area into a stone seating area. This will help to minimize the amount of water we use but still provide a garden.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health & Equity
How have you reduced your purchasing habits and what would you like to do next to reduce your consumption habits?

    Linda Chamberlain's avatar
    Linda Chamberlain 4/10/2023 5:19 AM
I have been working with only cash so I am aware of how much money I'm spending each week. Decreases the number of frivolous purchases.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Economy & Communities
What was it like to create a readiness plan? Did you find other resources you could share?

    Linda Chamberlain's avatar
    Linda Chamberlain 4/10/2023 5:14 AM
Our family survived a house fire a couple years ago and this has been something I've wanted to do for a while. I'm very excited to get started and these resources were very helpful.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Climate & Ecosystems
What are your thoughts on WSP partnering with smaller companies with the Emerge Program?

    Linda Chamberlain's avatar
    Linda Chamberlain 4/06/2023 6:59 AM
I think that would be amazing. Many times the smaller companies don't get the exposure they need and I think with an international company like WSP we can boost that exposure.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Climate & Ecosystems
What is one way you will reduce your carbon footprint? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your carbon footprint?

    Linda Chamberlain's avatar
    Linda Chamberlain 4/06/2023 5:59 AM
One way to reduce my carbon footprint is to bike more. I currently have meatless breakfasts and I'm planning to start composting my food waste again.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Basic Needs & Security
What was the tastiest meatless or vegan meal you ever had or had recently? Did you make it? Can you share a recipe?

Grilled portobello mushroom and red pepper po-boy. SOOOOOOO good! I didn't make that one but I have done one similar. You grilled sliced portobello mushroom, onion and red pepper until tender. Then place on a mini-sub bun and put a slice of Havarti cheese on top. Put in a toaster oven or broiler until cheese is melted. Put favorite dressing on and enjoy!
