The 2023 challenge is a good way to stay engaged with SDGs and my actions. I'm excited to start planting my garden outside tomorrow, on earth day as well. Happy Earth Day all!

What did you watch, and what was the most important thing you learned in the documentaries you watched? How does what you learned connect to your understanding of climate change and Earth Month?

I watched Julie Sinistore present on the Resource, Social, and Environmental Impacts of Food Choices. I and my family eat vegetarian 1-2 days a week at a minimum and at other meals. We do eat meat occasionally. We've also been backyard chicken raisers to some of the most pampered hens there are for their eggs. We'll be planting our vegetable garden here in the coming weeks. It was a good conversation thinking in terms of carbon intensity of different animal production methods. It's been a slow change for me personally being raised in a beef cattle raising state like Nebraska to living in Colorado and slowly being educated on the food system. I started with The Omnivore's Dilemma and Sugar, Salt, Fat as introductions to how the food lobby has nudged different food categories into vogue. This was an eye-opening presentation. If you can get a chance to hear her present, do it!

What is one way you will reduce your water use? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your water use?

We have purchased a garden in a box through our water utility and will remove more turf grass from our yard and plant 50+ native and low water plants, flowers, and grasses in June when it's warm enough here.

I analyzed my decarbonization options and decisions on Yellow Tin. The cost estimator tool helps to consider different options.
