Basic Needs & Security
Reduce Animal Product Consumption
SDG 2
One kilogram of beef and cheese emits 71kg and 24kg of greenhouse gasses, while 1kg of rice, grains, and legumes emits between 2-4kg. Fruits, vegetables, and nuts emit less than 1kg per 1kg. I will reduce my climate impact by enjoying 1 meatless meals and/or 1 vegan meals each day this week.
Climate & Ecosystems
Calculate Your Carbon Impact
SDG 13
I will calculate the carbon emissions associated with my household and consider how lifestyle changes could reduce the carbon footprint and impacts on the environment.
Basic Needs & Security
Volunteer in My Community
SDG 1

Climate & Ecosystems
Support Local Pollinators
SDG 15
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators to produce fruit. I will plant pollinator-friendly plants in my area to support local pollinators.
Education & Livelihood
Host or Join a Cleanup Event

Within my community at home or work, I will organize or attend a local cleanup event.

Economy & Communities
Analyze Your Utility Bills
SDG 7
I spend 20 minutes analyzing my recent utility bills, which might include electricity, gas, or water to see what my current usage is and determine if I can reduce my energy and water use.
Health & Equity
Support Indigenous & First Nations Communities

REFLECTION QUESTIONEconomy & CommunitiesWhat was one nonprofit organization that was exciting to learn about?
Alan Crain 4/05/2023 3:04 PMMy current favorite non-profit is Clean & Prosperous Washington. They charted the course for passage of the Climate Commitment Act which created a "Cap and Invest" model for pricing carbon and reducing impacts. Check them out here: https://www.cleanprosperouswa.com/

REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWhat surprised you about the two produce lists? How will you use these lists for your grocery shopping? Have you used these lists before?
Alan Crain 4/05/2023 3:01 PMI've long been an organic produce shopper. I also try to source locally, regionally, nationally to try to cut down on transportation impacts. Depending on the produce, sometimes I'll choose non-organic over organic if it's local. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEconomy & CommunitiesChanging lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! What's next for you?
Alan Crain 4/03/2023 10:41 AMI replaced my fluorescent light fixtures in the garage with LED fixtures. They are much brighter and good for the planet! I'm off to the basement next! :) -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhat are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time inside and on screens?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityHow did you incorporate using an entire vegetable (skins, peels, tops, and stalks) during one of your meal preps? What's something new you're going to try that is a zero-waste meal practice?
Alan Crain 4/03/2023 10:38 AMI actually prefer unpeeled carrots and potatoes for the extra flavor they add. I'll confess I haven't gotten to where I can eat my grapefruit peels yet, though! 🤢 -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWhat was the tastiest meatless or vegan meal you ever had or had recently? Did you make it? Can you share a recipe?
