Economy & Communities
Chat With A Nonprofit
SDG 12
I will have a conversation with one or more nonprofit organizations I want to be involved with.
Climate & Ecosystems
Support Local Pollinators
SDG 15
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators to produce fruit. I will plant pollinator-friendly plants in my area to support local pollinators.
Basic Needs & Security
Try a New Vegan or Vegetarian Recipe
I will try a new vegan or vegetarian recipe and share how it turns out on the Ecochallenge feed, or with family and friends.
Climate & Ecosystems
Explore My Area
SDG 14, 15
Each day, I will spend 10 minutes exploring a new area around my neighborhood (e.g., park, water body, nearby trail, community garden, green space, etc.).
Health & Equity
Spend Time Outside
SDG 3
I will replace 20 minute(s) per day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside exercising, enjoying the sunrise/sunset, gardening, journaling, or practicing gratitude for nature.
Basic Needs & Security
Reduce Animal Product Consumption
SDG 2
One kilogram of beef and cheese emits 71kg and 24kg of greenhouse gasses, while 1kg of rice, grains, and legumes emits between 2-4kg. Fruits, vegetables, and nuts emit less than 1kg per 1kg. I will reduce my climate impact by enjoying 1 meatless meals and/or 1 vegan meals each day this week.

Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

REFLECTION QUESTIONEconomy & CommunitiesWhat was one nonprofit organization that was exciting to learn about?
Andrea Dempsey 4/30/2023 9:14 AMI learned about the United Way budget coach program which allows me to share my financial knowledge with the community to help them not only reach financial goals but also helps them buy a home or purchase a car! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & EcosystemsWhy is it important to take care of pollinators? Do you have a favorite pollinator?
Andrea Dempsey 4/30/2023 9:13 AMWe have a ton of bees around our home (a neighbor keeps them) but because of that we have a ton of beautiful blooms in our flowerbeds. This year I specifically picked pollinators friendly flowers for our front flowerbed and started them from seeds -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWhat was the dish you made, and how did it turn out? What did it feel like to try a new recipe? If you can share a picture, please do!
Andrea Dempsey 4/30/2023 9:11 AMWe are always looking for new vegetarian meals to try! Thankfully our meal delivery subscription service has new vegetarians options for us to try each week! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhat are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time inside and on screens?
Andrea Dempsey 4/30/2023 9:09 AMWe set a goal of walking our dogs 30 miles in April. And at 32 miles as of 4/29 we crushed that goal. There was a lot of quality time with my husband and dogs, health benefits of getting our and walking, and hours less spent in front of a TV or on our phones! All around a win! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & EcosystemsHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place? Was there a new place in your region that was exciting to learn about and visit?
Andrea Dempsey 4/30/2023 9:08 AMI found trails at the back of my own neighborhood that took me to new place and even river/creek access for hot days and breaks while walking the dogs! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWhat was the tastiest meatless or vegan meal you ever had or had recently? Did you make it? Can you share a recipe?
Andrea Dempsey 4/30/2023 9:07 AMLove a good roasted chickpea bowl! Super filling, nutritious, and yummy. -
Andrea Dempsey 4/30/2023 9:01 AMThis month has been so fun trying to be more environmentally friendly and just appreciate the outdoors more. Thank you leaders of the Think Green RG for challenging us!
