REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhat did you watch, and what was the most important thing you learned in the documentaries you watched? How does what you learned connect to your understanding of climate change and Earth Month?
Melissa Diamond 4/19/2023 9:03 AMI watched a documentary on climate migration and the projected 21.5 million people who will be displaced due to climate by 2050 but will not be protected as refugees. I learned about the importance of addressing this issue through international law and individual actions. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhat was it like to practice mindfulness? If this is a practice for you already, what was something new you understood in practicing during Earth Month?
Melissa Diamond 4/17/2023 8:40 AMIt has been a valuable way to focus and become more present in my life as well as to disconnect from screens and focus on the world around me. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityHow have you reduced your purchasing habits and what would you like to do next to reduce your consumption habits?
Melissa Diamond 4/17/2023 8:39 AMI have been fixing clothing and bags that tear in order to reduce the need to purchase new items. I am planning to do more exchanges with friends and sharing of resources as a way to reduce consumption further. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhat was a linking factor across this group of SDGs?
Melissa Diamond 4/17/2023 8:37 AMCircumstances significantly impact how achievable each of these SDGs are among different populations. Factors including climate, socioeconomic status and educational background intersect and influence how attainable the SDGs are on individual and community levels, which feeds back into their feasibility on a global scale. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhat are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time inside and on screens?
Melissa Diamond 4/17/2023 8:36 AM-Less socialization
-Detachment from reality
-Loneliness and isolation OR a false sense of connection -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhat is easy for you to do when having a constructive conversation and what is challenging? What tips do you have for having a constructive conversation?
Melissa Diamond 4/17/2023 8:35 AMI find it easy to provide positive reinforcement and identify the things that the individual I am having the constructive conversation with is doing well. I find it more challenging to point out what should be done differently, especially if there's a chance the person may take it personally. I find that providing concrete examples and using storytelling help in having more challenging constructive conversations. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhy do you donate food? How does it connect to your values?
Melissa Diamond 4/14/2023 8:49 AMI donate food because there are others who can't afford to purchase it and food insecurity negatively impacts every aspect of affected individuals' lives. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhat was surprising about the ingredients in your cleaning supplies, personal care, and pet products?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONEconomy & CommunitiesWhat was one nonprofit organization that was exciting to learn about?
Melissa Diamond 4/14/2023 8:48 AMI spoke with an organization in Syria that is working with children with disabilities. They are struggling because they only have three Arabic sign language interpreters for all of northwest Syria which limits children's ability to attend and participate in school. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEconomy & CommunitiesWhat was it like to mend your clothing? If you are skilled at mending, what tips do you have for others?
Melissa Diamond 4/14/2023 8:47 AMThis is something that I do frequently in order to extend the lifecycle of clothing.
