WSP - Emerge Program

Spend 15 minutes learning about the Emerge Program at WSP. Emerge is WSP's strategic alliance program that seeks early-stage companies with novel solutions as strategic partners. Partners get access to in-house subject matter experts, an opportunity to pilot their products/technologies with WSP during the evaluation phase and have access to our client base. Emerge propels our partners by accelerating the product/technology adoption. Having recently launched our 4th cohort, Emerge has accelerated a number of companies whose mission aligns with UN SDGs. • Olokun Minerals • ecoSPEARS • PLAEX Building Systems

Participant Feed

Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

What surprised you about the two produce lists? How will you use these lists for your grocery shopping? Have you used these lists before?

As someone living in Maine, I was surprised to see blueberries on the dirty dozen list, since we have so many wild blueberries flourishing here, without the need for pesticides. Based on my personal experience, I wouldn't have assumed that blueberries would be on the high pesticide list. This surprise emphasized the importance of researching what it is that you are buying in large grocery stores and where they are grown and shipped from. Buying local is a great way to avoid unknown pesticides while supporting your local farmers.

What was the dish you made, and how did it turn out? What did it feel like to try a new recipe? If you can share a picture, please do!

I tried a vegan orange chicken recipe from a chef's "better than takeout" series. It was a fun new recipe and forced me to try new ingredients in cooking, which I can now incorporate into my new routine to have more meatless and vegan meals!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Basic Needs & Security
What was the tastiest meatless or vegan meal you ever had or had recently? Did you make it? Can you share a recipe?

    Madison Dinsmore 4/12/2023 6:25 AM
My favorite meatless meal that I have had was a creamy spring veggie pasta dish. I used asparagus and peas for the veggies and used cottage cheese and lentil pasta to make up for the protein lost from excluding meat.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Basic Needs & Security
With 5-minute or less showers reducing your water footprint, what do you plan to add next to your water conservation habits?

    Madison Dinsmore's avatar
    Madison Dinsmore 4/12/2023 6:21 AM
I also intend on running water less during dish washing - scrubbing all dishes with the water off and rinsing all at once.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Basic Needs & Security
What is one way you will reduce your water use? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your water use?

    Madison Dinsmore's avatar
    Madison Dinsmore 4/10/2023 12:17 PM
One way that my household could reduce our water usage is to not let water run while scrubbing dishes. We could be better about turning the water off to scrub, and rinsing all at once. I was also surprised by the concept of virtual water usage, and plan on looking into that further to fully understand my impact and water footprint and what areas of consumerism I could decrease in order to lower my virtual water usage.

I agree! "virtual water usage" was not a term I had previously heard of

I spent some time learning from my sister on how to use a sewing machine to mend holes in seams of pants. It felt good to bring life back to clothing that I enjoy wearing while saving money and keeping clothing out of a landfill.

What place in your region are you most excited to visit during your staycation?

I spent time planning a local weekend getaway with my mom for mother's day. My goal was to find an area where we could explore new outdoor areas in coastal Maine. While a weekend away to a warmer place would have been an easy getaway - I am looking forward to exploring a new local area, supporting local economy, reducing emissions and travel time, and getting more in touch with the beautiful state that I call home.
