WSP - Emerge Program

Spend 15 minutes learning about the Emerge Program at WSP. Emerge is WSP's strategic alliance program that seeks early-stage companies with novel solutions as strategic partners. Partners get access to in-house subject matter experts, an opportunity to pilot their products/technologies with WSP during the evaluation phase and have access to our client base. Emerge propels our partners by accelerating the product/technology adoption. Having recently launched our 4th cohort, Emerge has accelerated a number of companies whose mission aligns with UN SDGs. • Olokun Minerals • ecoSPEARS • PLAEX Building Systems

Reduce Animal Product Consumption

SDG 2

One kilogram of beef and cheese emits 71kg and 24kg of greenhouse gasses, while 1kg of rice, grains, and legumes emits between 2-4kg. Fruits, vegetables, and nuts emit less than 1kg per 1kg. I will reduce my climate impact by enjoying 1 meatless meals and/or 1 vegan meals each day this week.

Joining cleanup events makes me feel as though I am part of something bigger and that I’m helping the planet and my community. This weekend, my fiancé and I joined our second cleanup of the month and it was a great way to spend a Saturday morning.

Just discovered that the Weather Channel has a talk show called Pattrn that airs at 11am-12pm central that specifically talks about the environment, sustainability, and climate change. It is really good and I'm sad I hadn't discovered it sooner.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Climate & Ecosystems
What was your experience like plogging, or engaging in another way to collect litter while being outside? Was there any item you collected that was unusual that you found?

Today I plogged around my office while taking a quick afternoon break to appreciate the beautiful weather we’re having. The area around the Nashville office is both highly walkable and what I’d normally consider clean. Today, however (maybe because I was actively paying attention) was a walk full of picking up litter. Within half a mile I picked up 16 pieces of trash, 6 of which was before I had even left the parking lot. For me, today’s plog was a reminder to be present in the moment and observant of my surroundings, as well as a reminder to bring a bag next time I go for a plog.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Climate & Ecosystems
What is one way you will reduce your carbon footprint? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your carbon footprint?

To reduce my carbon footprint, I will look into more local vacations that do not require taking a flight and renting a car. Currently, my household actively recycles, donates unused items, and tries to shop local in an effort to reduce our carbon footprint.
