Climate & Ecosystems

SDG 13
I will calculate the carbon emissions associated with my household and consider how lifestyle changes could reduce the carbon footprint and impacts on the environment.
Basic Needs & Security
Reduce Animal Product Consumption
SDG 2
One kilogram of beef and cheese emits 71kg and 24kg of greenhouse gasses, while 1kg of rice, grains, and legumes emits between 2-4kg. Fruits, vegetables, and nuts emit less than 1kg per 1kg. I will reduce my climate impact by enjoying 1 meatless meals and/or 2 vegan meals each day this week.

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhat did you watch, and what was the most important thing you learned in the documentaries you watched? How does what you learned connect to your understanding of climate change and Earth Month?
Marjorie Gizelle Dumdum 4/27/2023 10:42 AMWe Are Here - highlighting the political, social, peacebuilding, and conflict resolution work of women living in challenging environments across the Arab States Region.
“A free woman is the basis of democracy as women are the basis of life and freedom,” said Majdoleen Hassan, a Syrian activist featured in the video and a member of the Syrian Women’s Initiative for Peace and Democracy - a diverse network of Syrian women peace activists and civil society members supported by UN Women. Peace does not grow without women. Women are the ones who push the most for peaceful resolutions as they are the ones with the greatest interest in achieving it and as they lose the most in wars. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhy is it important to honor native and indigenous peoples and cultures? What have you learned that is important to you? If you identify with or are a member of an indigenous group, how does your community practice sustainability?
Marjorie Gizelle Dumdum 4/26/2023 5:33 AMIt is important to honor native and indigenous peoples and cultures because Indigenous cultures bring wisdom and skills to the table and should be recognized for that. I don’t want to get into colonialism and adding up all our mistakes. Things were done bad things no doubt but what can we do about it now. Not let it happen again and move on. You can never heal from a wound if you poke it with a stick everyday. We are all here together recognizing and accepting others as equals is going to be a necessary step in the path to unity and equality.
