Over this last week, we have switched to an eco friendly - no waste packaging - laundry detergent. We have also eliminated the use of plastic bags completely in our home, including rubbish bin bags. Did you know that there is compostable bin bags? They work pretty well so far!
We have also reduced our use of disposable nappies and have introduced cloth nappies with the goal of eliminating the use of disposables all together.

How is planting trees good for your mental, physical, and spiritual health?

My grandfather was famous in his area for planting trees. He knew exactly what the most beneficial type of tree to plant was for your property. No neighbour was safe and none could refuse. He would show up and point out a particularly unhealthy patch of land and advise his unsuspecting neighbour of how this or that type of tree would fix it right up, and oh, look at that... he just so happens to have one in the back of his truck that needs planting. All of the yards in his area were gorgeously shaded, and he was beloved by his neighbors.
He is no longer with us, and gardening and planting trees allows me to feel connected to him. We often tear down and destroy nature, and it feels like a step towards positive change to make something grow.

We're using quite a lot of water washing baby bottles so we have switched to a castile soap that is safe for greywater. That greywater is used in our garden (subsurface irrigation).

Over the weekend, we have switched our night-lights throughout our hallways and bathrooms to a solar powered lights. We also incorporated yard scraps and cardboard from amazon boxes in our vegetable garden as well as in our compost. We have always recycled, but we're working on finding ways to recycle and reuse things within our home.

We've recently been on a Cannellini Bean kick for a bit of extra protein and iron and one of our favourites so far has been Cannellini beans in a spicey, creamy vodka sauce. We eat it by itself with a bit of parm or slathered on warm garlic bread with olive oil and it is delicious!
We almost always cook all of our meals at home and we've enjoyed incorporating new recipes - especially vegetarian ones!

My husband and I have reduced the size of our rubbish bin and are making a conscious effort to compost/reuse table scraps, recycle plastics and paper products as well as finding new ways to reuse glass containers. We now exclusively use our own bags for groceries and have found a grocery bag recycle bin at our local Fred Meyer (because who doesn't have a stash of grocery bags stored inside of another grocery bag somewhere??) to offload our old bags!
