I will watch 2 documentaries about climate change.

Climate & Ecosystems
Choose Sustainable Seafood Options

Economy & Communities
Mend Clothing
SDG 9
I will mend clothing for myself, family or friends.
Education & Livelihood
Stay on the Ground
SDG 11
Instead of traveling by plane, I will find an alternative way to accomplish the goals of an upcoming trip (i.e. telepresence, vacation locally). As an example, a plane from New York to Los Angeles (~2,450 miles) generates about 65 tons of carbon dioxide.
Education & Livelihood

For an upcoming vacation, I will spend 55 minutes planning out a staycation in my region. For reference, one several hour flight releases the equivalent of nearly 14% of the annual emissions from a car.
Economy & Communities

Amy Boyle Geisel 5/01/2023 7:01 AMWell done Team Arch! I learned a lot about how to incorporate, share, encourage others to make changes in their lifestyles. -
Amy Boyle Geisel 4/26/2023 8:42 AMClean Up Ringwood Day is this Saturday, April 29. Hosting a crew at the Ringwood Public Library, Ringwood NJ. If any Arch colleagues would like to come help; bagels, coffee, juice and supplies. Meet in front of library at 10am - noon. Dress appropriately for weather and bring bug spray (heavily forested area, ticks are an issue). -
Amy Boyle Geisel 4/26/2023 8:40 AMHosting a clean up event on the grounds and adjoining play ground of my local public library, Sat. April 29, 2023. This will be my Girl Scout Troop and volunteers from the Friends of the Library. Our Borough is supplying 'grabbers', garbage and recycling bags and will pick up larger items (last year, we found car tires). The Borough will supply bagels, coffee and juice in an effort to get more volunteers out. This is 'Clean Up Ringwood Day' - a great local event and a great starting point for conversations with my Troop about climate change, recycling, human habits and habit behind the library(forest). -
Amy Boyle Geisel 4/11/2023 7:29 AMExterminator called to share scary news about new tick borne disease outbreak in our area. Long discussion with 16 year old daughter. 'It doesn't just - go away Mom'. Family discussion about spraying lawn/shrubs, trees with Sevin vs. being more careful about tick checks. Family voted not to spray. 'We can do this another way' from my 16 year old daughter. She's learning and teaching me! -
Amy Boyle Geisel 4/05/2023 9:43 AMDifficult conversation last night with 16 year old daughter who wanted to buy plastic flowers, plastic flower spinners for air vents from Amazon to decorate car. My daughter is looking ahead to getting her driver’s license later this month. This led to comments- ‘I cannot wait to just get in the car and drive!’.That led to another conversation about multi-tasking while driving (‘this is why...’) in our hybrid vehicle to avoid use of gas (‘you were on the Green Team, what happens when the car uses gas rather than electricity?’).This led to tears. I want to do what I want to do!‘What if hundreds of juniors in HS across the US suddenly bought plastic flowers via Amazon to decorate THEIR cars and then they all just drove..for no reason...just to drive?’Where does plastic come from? What do you need versus what you want? What happens when you drive a gas powered car?Thoughtful pause. Sniffles. ‘Can’t I decorate the steering wheel?’.How to talk about climate change to a teenager. Slow down, listen – educate, inform and use ‘what if’ examples. Helped...this time. -
Amy Boyle Geisel 4/03/2023 6:18 AMI started gardening early this season just to appreciate my yard, neighborhood and this transition time of year from lingering frost to warmer days. Birds are out in abundance and arguing over resources, mates. I try to take a walk every day and notice something new happening in my neighborhood thanks to Mother Nature. Rejuvenates and keeps things in perspective.
