Brenda's actions
Climate & Ecosystems
Support Local Pollinators
SDG 15
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators to produce fruit. I will plant pollinator-friendly plants in my area to support local pollinators.
Education & Livelihood
Share Your Eco Habits
SDG 11
Through my Earth Month Ecochallenge feed, I will share with others an environmentally friendly habit I have cultivated.
Basic Needs & Security
Try a New Vegan or Vegetarian Recipe
I will try a new vegan or vegetarian recipe and share how it turns out on the Ecochallenge feed, or with family and friends.
Basic Needs & Security
Take 5-Minute Or Less Showers
SDG 6
I will save up to 6 gallons (23 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers. Tip: Use a timer to practice or count to 60 a few times.
Climate & Ecosystems
Ecological & Xeriscape Gardening
SDG 14, 15
Studies show a grass lawn is water intensive and on average it require about 30 percent of a household’s water consumption. I will do one or more of the following actions in my yard or community to conserve water and improve habitat: plant indigenous plants, landscape with water-efficient plants, add mulching, replace a lawn, and/or use eco-friendly fertilizers.
Climate & Ecosystems
Plant a Tree
SDG 15
On average, a tree absorbs 10 kilograms (22 pounds) of carbon dioxide yearly during the first 20 years. To do my part, I will plant 2 trees in my community, public parks, or backyard.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Brenda Godfrey 4/30/2023 5:26 PMThis last weekend, a friend was able to give me a hand building raised garden beds. Got 2/3s of them done, along with some plantings. -
Brenda Godfrey 4/07/2023 4:34 PMToday a friend came over and helped me plant 2 apple trees ... a Pink Lady and an Arkansas Black. He brought an auger, which really helped make this so much easier. Oh, both trees are dwarf sizes, so their max size will be 8-10' (height & width). Gotta keep 'em manageable. -
Brenda Godfrey 3/31/2023 11:53 AMEarlier this year I began seed starts. Next week, I order materials. At the end of April, a friend will be assisting me in the construction of 112 sqft of raised garden beds on my property, along with the planting of wildlife and pollinator friendly trees, bushes and flowers. The raised beds will be built to be deer proof, allowing me to reduce not only my carbon footprint (think trips to the grocery store), but also allowing me to share extras with other people in my community - especially import given the costs of nutritious food associated with inflation associate with weather events from climate change. This photo is an example of what will be built.
