Todd Gross 4/12/2023 6:44 AMA few years ago as part of my job, I met with the Harris-Galveston Subsidence District. When discussing water usage, they said that most modern water fixtures in a home are actually designed to be very efficient while providing good pressure and output. They said where water is wasted the most is the watering of green spaces, such as lawns. As many people overwater, most of it ends up as runoff into the storm sewer system where it goes into receiving streams. As part of another project for work, we spoke to a professor at Texas A&M and he said the goal of water lawns and plants to provide sufficient water so they develop deep roots and draw water stored in the ground. Overwatering causes shallow roots that require more water usage. The professor said people should water grass three (3) times per week for 15 minutes each watering. That will help grass develop deeper roots. It also minimizes water waste.-

Mary Hanks 4/10/2023 9:59 AMTodd, it occurs to me that in the course of your professional duties, you may have encountered some situations where responsible citizen action/response might have made a difference in making our area safer and more sustainable. I know that confidentiality requirements restrict what you can discuss, but if there's anything you can share, I'll bet a great many of us would benefit from it.
