I spent my Saturday volunteering at Hawk Creek Wildlife Center, a hidden gem right outside East Aurora village in WNY dedicated to conservation, education and rescue or wild birds and wild cats. I always have a great time volunteering at Hawk Creek and the warm weather was a great plus . Many thanks to Think Green for creating this opportunity. My muscles are still sore from digging mulch, moving buckets and wheel barrows, but it feels SO GOOD!

How did you incorporate using an entire vegetable (skins, peels, tops, and stalks) during one of your meal preps? What's something new you're going to try that is a zero-waste meal practice?

I made mashed potatoes and composted the peels. I also used cloth napkins. I always have a re-usable Swedish Dishcloth for kitchen clean-up (replaces towel paper). I will try to cut up an old towel in small squares for the messes I don't want to use the dishcloth for :)

How does practicing a work-life balance create a more sustainable life for you? How might it contribute to sustainability more broadly?

It gives me the mind space I need to reflect, ingest and digest on life and work priorities. If my mind is more clear I can prioritize in a more eco-smart way: both at home and at work.
