Sonnet for the Earth - End of Earth Month
The Earth, a wonderland of life and light,
Where nature's beauty knows no bounds or end,
From oceans deep to mountains soaring bright,
A priceless gift that we must all defend.

Her forests, home to creatures great and small,
Her skies, a canvas painted blue and gold,
Her streams, a melody that soothes us all,
Her deserts, stories of the ages told.

We stand in awe of her majestic grace,
Her rhythms, seasons, patterns, all so true,
And yet, we fail to see her precious face,
As we pollute and waste, and all undo.

Let's honor Earth this month and every day,
And strive to treat her with the utmost care and sway.

    How About Those Apples?
I am not sure I completed this exercise correctly. I am more of a hands on person so to compare more and understand the differences I actually purchased one organic apple and one apple that was not labeled as organic. The organic didn't look as visually appealing but the favor profile was intense. The apple that was not labeled organic was larger but I can only describe the flavor as watered down. Also when washing both fruits I felt like there was definitely more of a "sheen" on the non-organic one that took more effort to wash. The organic apple was also actually cheaper but it was on sale so it was a WIN-WIN-WIN for me.

I just realized we can do our check-ins posthumously! I took some time off around a trip where I was traveling for work and wasn't in a good place to do my check ins. My travel was productive but I found a greater impact to the fresh eyes when I returned my home office after being on the road for a week. Don't save all your time worrying that you need it later. Sometimes one day off can feed your work-life balance improving self and saving sanity!

    Weathering the Future
"Weathering the Future" is a full-length documentary produced by PBS Nova that explores the impact of climate change on our planet and what we can do to mitigate its effects. The film highlights the experiences of scientists, environmentalists, and communities around the world as they confront the challenges of a changing climate.

The documentary covers a wide range of topics related to climate change, including the science behind it, the effects of extreme weather events, and the role of human behavior in contributing to the problem. It also explores the potential solutions to climate change, from renewable energy sources to new technologies that can help reduce our carbon footprint.

One of the key takeaways from the film is that climate change is not just a distant threat, but a present reality affecting people all over the world. The documentary features stories from communities that have been impacted by climate change, such as farmers struggling with droughts and floods, coastal communities threatened by rising sea levels, and cities dealing with extreme heat waves.

At the same time, the documentary also highlights the many ways in which individuals and communities are working to combat climate change. From innovative technology solutions to grassroots activism, the film offers hope for a more sustainable future.

The documentary concludes by emphasizing the urgency of the climate crisis and the need for immediate action. It encourages viewers to take steps in their own lives to reduce their carbon footprint, such as reducing meat consumption, using public transportation, and supporting renewable energy sources. It also calls on governments and businesses to take bold action to address the problem, such as implementing carbon pricing and transitioning to a low-carbon economy.

Overall, "Weathering the Future" is a comprehensive and informative documentary that provides a clear overview of the challenges posed by climate change and the opportunities for meaningful action. As we confront this global crisis, it offers hope and inspiration for a more sustainable and just future.

I really enjoyed this final call out by Bernadette Woods Plackky NOVA Cheif Meteorologist, Climate Central that stresses the importants of small scale solutions to contribute to a global solution.

Just do it. There are a billion sewing tutorials on the internet and no reason not to. Sometimes you can even repair and embellish at the same time. One of my favorite skirts now has a bunch of decorative patches where the fabric wore out or tore.

    Repair and Remember
As we celebrate Earth Month, it's important to reflect on the ways in which we can reduce our impact on the environment. One of the ways we can do this is by repairing and reusing our clothes, rather than constantly buying new ones. But repairing clothes isn't just good for the environment - it can also help preserve memories of the good times we had when we wore them.

Think back to your favorite shirt or dress. Maybe it's a shirt you wore on a memorable vacation, or a dress you wore to a friend's wedding. The fabric may be worn or torn, but the memories associated with it are still as vivid as ever. By repairing these clothes, we can continue to wear them and relive those happy memories.

Repairing clothes also adds a personal touch to our wardrobe. When we take the time to mend a tear or replace a missing button, we are creating a garment that is uniquely our own. We are also showing respect for the labor and resources that went into creating the original piece of clothing.

In a world where fast fashion dominates, repairing clothes can also be a form of resistance. It allows us to break free from the constant cycle of consumption and disposal, and instead create a wardrobe that is both sustainable and meaningful.

Repairing clothes doesn't have to be difficult or time-consuming. Simple repairs like sewing on a button or patching a hole can be done at home with just a few basic tools. And if you don't feel confident in your sewing skills, there are plenty of resources available online or in your community to help you learn.

So, this Earth Month, take a look at your wardrobe and think about the memories associated with your favorite pieces. Consider repairing them instead of throwing them away. By doing so, you'll not only be reducing your impact on the environment, but you'll also be preserving the memories of the good times you had when you wore them.

Of all the wonders that our eyes behold,
None rival earth in beauty and in grace,
A world of treasures yet to be told,
A place where life has found its perfect space.

From rugged mountains to the ocean's deep,
From barren deserts to the lush green trees,
The earth's diversity is ours to keep,
A gift so precious, it's beyond degree.

But with this gift comes great responsibility,
To cherish and protect this primal place,
For in our hands lies its fragility,
The power to destroy or preserve its grace.

So let us be the guardians of this earth,
And vow to protect it, for all its worth.

Oh, how beautiful and precious is the earth,
A place that's worth protecting from its birth.

What was the most interesting thing you learned from analyzing your utility bill? What are some ways you can save energy and water?

The most interesting thing I learned from analyzing my utility bill was the breakdown of my energy and water usage. To save energy last year I updated my thermostat to Nest which helps maintain a comfortable temperature by connecting the controls to the local weather. This year I looking into adding solar panels to offset my usage.

I have Nest thermostats all over my house as well, and it truly is a great tool to monitor temperatures across your house and keep it eco-friendly with the Eco mode built in to it.

Reflections are a powerful reminder of how our environment impacts what we see. This photo of trees reflected in a lake challenges our perspective and highlights the complexity of nature. When things seem upside down and chaotic, it might just be a matter of perspective. Let's work towards protecting our planet and appreciating its wonders this Earth Month.
