Anusree's actions
Health & Equity
Support Public Transit

Access to public transportation enables more opportunity and a better quality of life. I will make 1 phone calls and/or send 1 emails per day to public officials to advocate for a more comprehensive public transportation system in my region.
Climate & Ecosystems
Watch a Documentary About Climate Change or Nature
SDG 13, 14, 15
I will watch 1 documentaries about climate change.
Basic Needs & Security
Try a New Vegan or Vegetarian Recipe
I will try a new vegan or vegetarian recipe and share how it turns out on the Ecochallenge feed, or with family and friends.
Health & Equity
Practice Mindfulness
SDG 3
I will spend 1 minutes each day practicing mindfulness.
Health & Equity
Spend Time Outside
SDG 3
I will replace 30 minute(s) per day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside exercising, enjoying the sunrise/sunset, gardening, journaling, or practicing gratitude for nature.
Education & Livelihood
Work-Life Balance
SDG 8
During the workday, I will schedule time for daily breaks during work days to practice work-life balance.
Economy & Communities
Carry My Trash
SDG 12
I will carry all of my unrecyclable, non-compostable trash with me each day to raise my awareness of how much waste I produce.
Economy & Communities
Mend Clothing
SDG 9
I will mend clothing for myself, family or friends.
Basic Needs & Security
Make Zero-Waste Meals
SDG 2
I will cook 1 meals with zero waste each day.
Economy & Communities
Choose LED Bulbs
SDG 7
I will replace 2 incandescent light bulb(s) with Energy Star-certified LED bulbs, saving up to $14 per fixture per year.
Basic Needs & Security
Volunteer in My Community
SDG 1
I will volunteer 2 hours in my community.
Health & Equity
Donate Food
SDG 3, 10
I will find out what food programs are in my area and donate food and/or other items that they request.
Climate & Ecosystems
Support Local Pollinators
SDG 15
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators to produce fruit. I will plant pollinator-friendly plants in my area to support local pollinators.
Education & Livelihood
Stay on the Ground
SDG 11
Instead of traveling by plane, I will find an alternative way to accomplish the goals of an upcoming trip (i.e. telepresence, vacation locally). As an example, a plane from New York to Los Angeles (~2,450 miles) generates about 65 tons of carbon dioxide.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONEconomy & CommunitiesWhat was it like to mend your clothing? If you are skilled at mending, what tips do you have for others?
Anusree K 4/28/2023 1:11 PMI've fixed my clothes many times as I like to maintain my favourite clothes rather than throwing it away. There are plenty of videos online which helped me with the stitching techniques. I would suggest to watch those videos (try searching “stitching hacks” on instagram).

REFLECTION QUESTION
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityHow did you incorporate using an entire vegetable (skins, peels, tops, and stalks) during one of your meal preps? What's something new you're going to try that is a zero-waste meal practice?
-
Anusree K 4/22/2023 12:56 PMToday, as we celebrate Earth Day, it is critical that we consider our impact on the planet and take action to protect it. I am overjoyed to be a part of this effort to ensure a sustainable future for future generations. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWhat was the dish you made, and how did it turn out? What did it feel like to try a new recipe? If you can share a picture, please do!
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhat was it like to practice mindfulness? If this is a practice for you already, what was something new you understood in practicing during Earth Month?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONEducation & LivelihoodHow does practicing a work-life balance create a more sustainable life for you? How might it contribute to sustainability more broadly?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONEconomy & CommunitiesWhat one thing will you do right away to reduce your waste? What is the second thing you will do?
Anusree K 4/12/2023 11:27 AMTo begin reducing waste, I would always carry a reusable water bottle with me and refuse single-use plastic bottles. In addition, I would commit to properly recycling and composting organic waste at home. Small changes like these can make a big difference in terms of waste reduction and environmental protection. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhat are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time inside and on screens?
Anusree K 4/11/2023 10:22 PM"As someone who has fallen into the trap of spending most of my time indoors and on screens, I've realized the negative impact it has on my well-being, from feeling disconnected from nature to struggling with mental health. I'm now committed to finding a healthier balance, prioritizing meaningful experiences and human connections over screens, and prioritizing my physical and mental health." -
Anusree K 4/11/2023 10:19 PM"I've taken up the challenge to carry my trash with me wherever I go during Earth Month EcoChallenge because I want to become more mindful of my waste and reduce my environmental impact. I'm also committed to finding a better work-life balance by setting boundaries, prioritizing self-care, and making time for things that truly matter to me, like spending time in nature and connecting with loved ones."
