REFLECTION QUESTIONEducation & LivelihoodHow does practicing a work-life balance create a more sustainable life for you? How might it contribute to sustainability more broadly?
Valerie Kennedy 4/28/2023 5:18 AMI am struggling to maintain a good work life balance recently. Work has monopolized my time and I am working to reprioritize to get the balance more in line. When work and life are in balance I am happier and feel more prepared. This makes life more enjoyable and reduces anxiety. When we are happier we are kinder and that kindness is contagious. I think if we have that balance everywhere all people would be kinder and therefore care more about their environment, relationships and everything around them. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWhat was one of your most memorable volunteer experiences, and why? What would you like to volunteer for next, and why?
Valerie Kennedy 4/27/2023 3:08 AMI think my most memorable volunteer experiences are ones done with others especially my kids as I know I am setting a good example for them. We did a group volunteer effort with coworkers and we've cleaned up the town lake from trash with the kids. Anything you can do together makes it more fun and double as rewarding.
I run my daughters girl scout troop and we are going on a tour of the food pantry and making a donation as a troop. For a future volunteer experience I would like to do something to more directly help others and that more directly reaches the people in need, such as serving food at a shelter versus indirectly helping people by cleaning up and stocking the thrift stores. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhat was it like to practice mindfulness? If this is a practice for you already, what was something new you understood in practicing during Earth Month?
Valerie Kennedy 4/18/2023 4:08 AMMy daughter's girl scout troop was picking up trash at the local lake and learning about leaving no footprint when you are out in nature. The simple task of disposing trash in the trash cans will truly help to save the planet. I cannot believe the amount of trash they collected and there are trash cans at the lake just about every 20 feet.
Therefore, mindfulness about our actions will go a long way especially in protecting the Earth during this month and every month.
It was rainy and foggy yesterday. I was able to look out at a lake in town and really appreciate the beauty all around me even in the fog. Practicing mindfulness does not come easy to me but it does force me to slow down and notice the things around me so I have the opportunity to be more grateful. -
Valerie Kennedy 3/20/2023 3:11 AMI participate in this Eco-Challenge every year and it is a great way to better myself. I wish I could make some of these daily habits continue outside of the month of April when I am held accountable to them.
