Kimberly Kinnan 4/14/2023 3:17 PMMaking conscious choices that are environmentally friendly, sustainable and equitable gets easier every day as it becomes your norm. I find it is becoming second nature. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEducation & LivelihoodHow do you create new sustainability-related habits or change bad habits?
Kimberly Kinnan 4/14/2023 3:11 PMI am doing my best to let restaurant staff know I do not need a straw! So simple yet a good step. I tell the server or host that I am trying to reduce my footprint and every little bit helps! Hearing it from me or other customers may impact their habits as well. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEconomy & CommunitiesWhat was it like to create a readiness plan? Did you find other resources you could share?
Kimberly Kinnan 4/13/2023 8:07 AMWe live in a small cabin in a small northern Michigan town. Our readiness plans include having back-up sources of heat, power and water. Because our home is very small it is easier to prepare for emergencies that arise. This makes us more aware of our resource use and true resource needs. Making and preparing a readiness plan keeps us in tune to wise and conservative use of resources. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWhat was the dish you made, and how did it turn out? What did it feel like to try a new recipe? If you can share a picture, please do!
Kimberly Kinnan 4/13/2023 8:01 AMI made pumpkin griddle biscuits and brown rice and beans. Both turned out well and tasted great! I cook vegetarian meals frequently but have recently moved and do not currently have an oven. We downsized in a "BIG" way and have to try new cooking methods. It has been a good experience and an environmentally friendly one too! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEducation & LivelihoodHow does working with others to clean up your community make you feel?
Kimberly Kinnan 4/13/2023 7:50 AMWe live in a very small town. We pick up trash along the roads we walk with our dog. Now that the snow is melting, it is even more important! The area looks much nicer and people notice! It makes me feel like I am contributing to my community in a simple yet significant way. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhat is easy for you to do when having a constructive conversation and what is challenging? What tips do you have for having a constructive conversation?
Kimberly Kinnan 4/11/2023 2:58 PMTry your best to meet the person where they are. Try to understand them and their perspective. Express your feelings and views with respect, kindness and consideration. -
Kimberly Kinnan 4/11/2023 2:51 PMChanging daily habits can be difficult. Keep trying and pretty soon those environmentally friendly choices become second nature! -
Kimberly Kinnan 3/21/2023 1:27 PMParticipating in ecochallenge is an excellent way to keep yourself on track as a good earth steward.
