To help protect our planet Earth, I have been performing a few errands by foot; for example, walking to the (post office, local food mart, and hair salon). I'm getting in my exercise, enjoying nature and the weather, taking in the fresh air and practicing mindfulness all at the same time. It's a great feeling! I also really love looking at the home improvements people are doing to their homes, at this time of the year ... this gives me some ideas for my own home ... uh oh!!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Economy & Communities
What was the most interesting thing you learned from analyzing your utility bill? What are some ways you can save energy and water?

    Christine Kostantakis 4/12/2023 5:18 AM
In the warmer months, I will use a clothing rack to dry our clothing outdoors; I just place the rack on our deck. The clothes dry quickly, while freshening the fabrics and smell so clean.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Climate & Ecosystems
What ecological or xeriscape landscaping practices do you have? How has your landscape changed from these practices?

    Christine Kostantakis's avatar
    Christine Kostantakis 4/12/2023 5:09 AM
At home (in our backyard), we've replaced grass/mulch areas with decorative rocks. This is much easier! Less maintenance and more time to enjoy the outdoors!!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Climate & Ecosystems
What is one way you will reduce your carbon footprint? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your carbon footprint?

    Christine Kostantakis's avatar
    Christine Kostantakis 4/12/2023 5:05 AM
It's simple! Turn off lights when natural light is sufficient. I do this at work (office & warehouse spaces) and at home!!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Economy & Communities
Changing lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! What's next for you?

    Christine Kostantakis 4/10/2023 7:34 AM
Our goal, at home, is to replace each and every light bulb from fluorescent to LED (inside and outside). We pass this message along to our adult children to do the same at their homes.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health & Equity
What was surprising about the ingredients in your cleaning supplies, personal care, and pet products?

    Christine Kostantakis's avatar
    Christine Kostantakis 4/10/2023 7:30 AM
At Earth Friendly Products, every ingredient (in ECOS products) is the safest in its class and has met high standards for performance.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

    Christine Kostantakis 4/10/2023 7:22 AM
I did not try a new dish but I did try something new and different for me. Remedy - organic plant based wellness shakes. They come in a variety of flavors and are delicious!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

How have you reduced your purchasing habits and what would you like to do next to reduce your consumption habits?

    Christine Kostantakis's avatar
    Christine Kostantakis 4/10/2023 6:22 AM
Keeping away from shopping at department/retail stores and resisting sales. Rethink weekly and monthly budget and have smarter and wiser ideas for what to do with those $'s!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Education & Livelihood
How does practicing a work-life balance create a more sustainable life for you? How might it contribute to sustainability more broadly?

    Christine Kostantakis's avatar
    Christine Kostantakis 4/10/2023 6:13 AM
By educating and listening to other people, you begin to value these ideas and introduce them into your own lifestyle both at home and work and vise versa!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Education & Livelihood
List some of the places you frequent often (work, grocery store, natural areas). Could you choose one or two days a week to schedule driving with a friend, neighbor or co-worker to these places?

    Christine Kostantakis's avatar
    Christine Kostantakis 4/10/2023 6:06 AM
I carpool to work 3x per week with a co-worker/friend. Also, my husband and I will complete our weekly tasks together and take one car. At times, we may even treat ourselves to ice cream to end the ride home!
