    It seems to be the season for yellow flowers. These are yellow wood violets that I found.

    I always look forward to seeing Leatherwood blooming each spring. This native deciduous shrub has small trumpet-shaped flowers that attract flower flies and bumble bees.

    The Yellow Trout Lilies have started to bloom. Trout lily plants grow for four to seven years before they produce flowers.

    The highlight of my walk today was seeing four Mourning Cloaks! These lovely butterflies are known as Camberwell Beauties in Scotland and England.

    I found some Apple Moss on my hike outside today. This bright-green moss is named for its green, apple-shaped capsules and likes to grow on rocky ledges.

    On my walk outdoors today, I came across these hepaticas. Hepaticas are some of the first native wildflowers to open their blossoms in spring.
