Education & Livelihood
Stay on the Ground
SDG 11
Instead of traveling by plane, I will find an alternative way to accomplish the goals of an upcoming trip (i.e. telepresence, vacation locally). As an example, a plane from New York to Los Angeles (~2,450 miles) generates about 65 tons of carbon dioxide.
Education & Livelihood
Plan A Staycation in Your Community

Health & Equity
Donate Food

I will find out what food programs are in my area and donate food and/or other items that they request.
Climate & Ecosystems
Support Local Pollinators

At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators to produce fruit. I will plant pollinator-friendly plants in my area to support local pollinators.

Climate & Ecosystems
Ecological & Xeriscape Gardening
SDG 14, 15
Studies show a grass lawn is water intensive and on average it require about 30 percent of a household’s water consumption. REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhat is easy for you to do when having a constructive conversation and what is challenging? What tips do you have for having a constructive conversation?
Sharon Macken 4/24/2023 8:45 AMI feel I am becoming a better listener while I practice constructive communication. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & EcosystemsWhat was your experience like plogging, or engaging in another way to collect litter while being outside? Was there any item you collected that was unusual that you found?
Sharon Macken 4/20/2023 12:09 PMIt is the perfect activity to see immediate results. Cleaning up trash in our common greenspace makes it safer to walk our pets. Most trash picked up was from hurricane Ian, lots of roof tiles and soffit pieces -
Sharon Macken 4/20/2023 11:17 AMI am learning so much doing these challenges. What a great team activity!
