Mike's actions
Climate & Ecosystems
Collect Litter on a Plog / Plalk
SDG 15
Each day, I will go on a plog or plalk for 20 minutes and collect 5 items of litter.
Climate & Ecosystems
Support Local Pollinators
SDG 15
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators to produce fruit. I will plant pollinator-friendly plants in my area to support local pollinators.
Health & Equity
Spend Time Outside
SDG 3
I will replace 15 minute(s) per day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside exercising, enjoying the sunrise/sunset, gardening, journaling, or practicing gratitude for nature.
Climate & Ecosystems
Wetland Cleanup
I will clean up the garbage that has collected in our neighborhood wetland
Health & Equity
Practice Mindfulness
SDG 3
I will spend 5 minutes each day practicing mindfulness.
Basic Needs & Security
Take 5-Minute Or Less Showers
SDG 6
I will save up to 6 gallons (23 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers. Tip: Use a timer to practice or count to 60 a few times.
Economy & Communities
Analyze Your Utility Bills
SDG 7
I spend 15 minutes analyzing my recent utility bills, which might include electricity, gas, or water to see what my current usage is and determine if I can reduce my energy and water use.
Education & Livelihood
Work-Life Balance
SDG 8
During the workday, I will schedule time for daily breaks during work days to practice work-life balance.
Economy & Communities
Climate change and the Supply Chain
Study the effects of climate change on the supply chain for raw materials and components for our company.

REFLECTION QUESTIONEconomy & CommunitiesWhat was the most interesting thing you learned from analyzing your utility bill? What are some ways you can save energy and water?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhat are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time inside and on screens?
Mike Martini 4/24/2023 6:09 AMLack of Vitamin D! I also image that there would be a lack of imagination, a lack of social ability to interact with each other. I believe we need to interact with other people and nature to as a foundation to happiness. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & EcosystemsWhat was your experience like plogging, or engaging in another way to collect litter while being outside? Was there any item you collected that was unusual that you found?
Mike Martini 4/19/2023 10:28 AMIt felt good cleaning up the environment where I live for both my enjoyment and my neighbors enjoyment. -
Mike Martini 4/19/2023 10:18 AMEvery morning while doing dishes, I view out over my back yard into a wetland full of beautiful vegetation and wildlife. I see many ugly pieces of trash sitting in it obscuring the natural beauty. Last week Saturday, I decided to go out into that wetland and clean it up! I collected cans, plastic jugs, plastic planters, empty plastic bottles, golf balls, and a good deal of paper. All in total, about 20 pounds of garbage was collected and removed from the wetland. Not trying to get anything except a better view of our neighborhood wetland!
