Climate & Ecosystems
Ecological & Xeriscape Gardening
SDG 14, 15
Studies show a grass lawn is water intensive and on average it require about 30 percent of a household’s water consumption. I will do one or more of the following actions in my yard or community to conserve water and improve habitat: plant indigenous plants, landscape with water-efficient plants, add mulching, replace a lawn, and/or use eco-friendly fertilizers.
Economy & Communities

REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWhat did you watch, and what was the most important thing you learned in the documentaries you watched? How does what you learned connect to your understanding of climate change and Earth Month?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWhat was one of your most memorable volunteer experiences, and why? What would you like to volunteer for next, and why?
Sarah Meade 4/17/2023 8:11 AMVolunteered with two organizations - Restorative Justice Program at the Boulder County District Attorneys and the Wildlands Restoration Volunteers non-profit (planting pollinator plants) -
Sarah Meade 4/13/2023 9:40 AMNew habit I have adopted around shopping for new items is to first assess if the company I am buying from meets certain standards and requirements for sustainability and diversity, equity and inclusion (e.g., B Corp certification, Regenerative Organic certification, Fair Trade certification, or items meet industry standards such as Bluesign). I also check to see if the company offers repairs or replacement of broken parts (E.g., Patagonia fixes garments, Travel Pro replaces broken parts on your suitcase, etc.). Additionally, I look for warranties that also offer replacement of parts so I don't have to throw out the item I bought, before it's really lived a long life. Lastly, more and more companies are considering the life of the product from origin of materials to the end of the life of product. Buying from companies that recycle or reuse parts of the product at the end of its life (once you've retired it), contributes to the further growth of the circular economy. If we can, we should support those companies! -

Sarah Meade 4/12/2023 5:47 PMLearned more about the differences between city hosted compost services and private company services, locally. Created a training based on the knowledge I acquired -
