Health & Equity

Track My Purchases

SDG 10

Each day, I will track my purchases to identify my spending habits. This will allow me to see what purchases can be reduced.

COMPLETED 1
DAILY ACTION

Economy & Communities

Chat With A Nonprofit

SDG 12

I will have a conversation with one or more nonprofit organizations I want to be involved with.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Health & Equity

Spend Time Outside

SDG 3

I will replace 25 minute(s) per day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside exercising, enjoying the sunrise/sunset, gardening, journaling, or practicing gratitude for nature.

COMPLETED 3
DAILY ACTIONS

Health & Equity

Advocate for Equitable Food Access

SDG 10

Access to affordable, nutritious food is a food justice issue. I will advocate for equitable food options at work, campus, or in the spaces I frequent by contacting community leaders and/or doing other advocacy actions.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Climate & Ecosystems

Save trees by reducing facial tissue consumption

I have terrible environmental allergies year-round. My nose is always running, and I used to use a LOT of tissue to blow my nose. I estimate over a box per week. I have switched to using other tissue-free forms of clearing my nasal passages as much as possible. Ie, the "sports blow" into the sink when at home. (Kind of gross at first, and It involves a lot of sink rinsing/cleaning with vinegar! But it's worth it to save some trees.)

COMPLETED 6
DAILY ACTIONS

Health & Equity

Make Cleaning Products

SDG 3

I will make a few homemade cleaning products.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Donate Food

SDG 3, 10

I will find out what food programs are in my area and donate food and/or other items that they request.

UNCOMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Basic Needs & Security

Take 5-Minute Or Less Showers

SDG 6

I will save up to 6 gallons (23 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers. Tip: Use a timer to practice or count to 60 a few times.

COMPLETED 8
DAILY ACTIONS

Climate & Ecosystems

Choose Sustainable Seafood Options

SDG 14

Using Seafood Watch's list, I will enjoy 1 sustainable seafood meals each day.

COMPLETED 0
DAILY ACTIONS

Climate & Ecosystems

Support Local Pollinators

SDG 15

At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators to produce fruit. I will plant pollinator-friendly plants in my area to support local pollinators.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Climate & Ecosystems

Ecological & Xeriscape Gardening

SDG 14, 15

Studies show a grass lawn is water intensive and on average it require about 30 percent of a household’s water consumption. I will do one or more of the following actions in my yard or community to conserve water and improve habitat: plant indigenous plants, landscape with water-efficient plants, add mulching, replace a lawn, and/or use eco-friendly fertilizers.

COMPLETED

I researched about making natural floor polish/cleaner and found this link from Murphy's Oil Soap:

I've steeped my tea, I just need to try it out. Will post after using it...

I used Orange Pekoe (Red Rose), (probably about 2 bags/litre of water), brought it to a boil, then turned the heat off and left it for a few hours. Then I took the teabags out and left the tea until I was ready to use it. (I made it ahead of my planned mopping day.) It works! :) I was very pleasantly surprised at the nice, clean sheen it put on my (engineered) wood floors. Will definitely be using this from now on...
