Shannon Morelos 4/20/2023 8:41 AMBroken bottles and charred pieces of glass,
Wadded up newspapers tossed on the grass,
Pouring of concrete and tearing out trees.
This is the environment that surrounds me?
Poisons and insecticides sprayed on our food,
Oceans filling with thick oil crude.
All sea life destined to a slow, awful doom.
These are the things we are to consume?
Mills pumping out iron, expelling yellow fumes,
Airlines emitting caustic gases from fuels,
Weapons of destruction tested at desolate sites.
And this is the air that's to sustain life?
There has to be something that someone can do,
Like raise the awareness to those around you
That if we don't heed the problem at hand
It's your life that's at stake, the destruction of man.

Shannon Morelos 4/19/2023 12:25 PMReally learning to get in the swing of this zero-waste meal challenge. Buying fruits and veggies fresh, instead of in a can or bag, is really helping me to achieve this goal. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & EcosystemsWhat is one way you will reduce your carbon footprint? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your carbon footprint?
Shannon Morelos 4/03/2023 3:48 PMI will reduce my carbon footprint by opening windows when it is warm outside, instead of turning on the AC. To reduce my carbon footprint now, I work remotely and only drive when absolutely necessary. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & EcosystemsWhy is art an important way for you to express sustainability values?
Shannon Morelos 4/03/2023 3:43 PMFor the same reason we cannot delete pictures of the Holocaust. Knowing where we have come from, to where we are now has way more impact when you can see it visually. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEducation & LivelihoodHow does practicing a work-life balance create a more sustainable life for you? How might it contribute to sustainability more broadly?
Shannon Morelos 4/03/2023 3:40 PMPracticing daily work life-balance allows me to breathe when things get difficult, which is actually alot. Just knowing that I can only do what I can do at any given time, is a mental break for me which allows me to continue to grind on day after day. This is the most sustainable thing I can do for my life and my piece of mind. Work-life balance provides individuals and opportunity to see why they work tirelessly, to spend time with those they love, and doing the things which make them happy... ultimately, to rest and refresh. When you put life before work, you have a greater sense of purpose, more daily fulfillment, better health outcomes, and will overall be happier. These qualities will expand and affect those around you in a positive way. -
