Today is the last day of Earth Month but I will continue with the challenge as I got to learn a lot and able to come up with great ideas! Also, it was a nice eye opener.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health & Equity
What did you watch, and what was the most important thing you learned in the documentaries you watched? How does what you learned connect to your understanding of climate change and Earth Month?

    Claudia Ramirez's avatar
    Claudia Ramirez 4/30/2023 5:58 PM
I watched a few short documentaries on YouTube about equity gender health and peace. The most important thing I learned is that everybody contributes and play a huge role when it comes to climate change and earth month.

Today I came with the idea of using old gutters to put on my garden to place strawberries, black berries, and some spices that droop down! It would be much better than being in the ground less pest or little bunnies not eating the berries. Let's see how it goes this summer!

Let me know how it goes! That’s a really cool idea!

That is very smart! Probably save your back too and reusing the gutters that would end up in the landfill
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Education & Livelihood
Are your colleagues interested in the Ecochallenge? What kind of conversations and feedback have you received?

    Claudia Ramirez's avatar
    Claudia Ramirez 4/29/2023 5:38 PM
Some of my colleagues were not interested in the ecochallange but by watching their actions they were doing the challenge without even knowing. For instance, attended a clean up, created a garden, recycling, ride share, etc.

Today we went to a local plant nursery to see which trees and bushes we will be buying this time for pollinators!

So today I learned about aquaponics (Aquaponics is a food production system that couples aquaculture with hydroponics whereby the nutrient-rich aquaculture water is fed to hydroponically grown plants). I learned about the benefits and disadvantages! Overall it's more work as you need to maintain PH levels and their nitrogen levels. Imma give it a try for the second time but the selection of plants for aquaponics is very limited.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Education & Livelihood
What's your experience been with the Ecochallenge? Do you feel like you've learned something new or are making a difference?

    Claudia Ramirez's avatar
    Claudia Ramirez 4/26/2023 5:12 PM
My experience with the ecochallange has been amazing as everyday I learn more about sustainability, programs, testing, impacts, etc. Prior to the ecochallange I only knew the basics and few of things about hotel management sustainability but now I know a bit more ! I feel like I am doing a difference now as I'm sharing this information to my family members and friends which makes us have more decent conversations with an immense positive!

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health & Equity
Why do you donate food? How does it connect to your values?

    Claudia Ramirez's avatar
    Claudia Ramirez 4/26/2023 5:08 PM
I donate food or clothing because I know there is people who might need a helping hand due to financial or life circumstances. It connects to my values because I know the struggle what people go through as we all are humans. Also, we have to be humble and kind at all times.

Instead of pesticides that are harmful to the ecosystem and wild life. Try the following instead! You are not only repelling insects but you are also growing organic herbs which you can utilize some of them on your favorite dishes! 💚

Sam! Yes!! We have that lavender and basil right outside our bedroom window and when it rains or I water it... Geez it's the best smell ever!

Have you ever tried lavender, lemon, honey teas?
