REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhat are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time inside and on screens?
Maggie Ruiter 4/28/2023 10:27 AMA culture that spends most of its time inside and on screens can have significant implications for physical and mental health, relationships, the environment, and creativity. It is important to find a balance between screen time and other activities that promote physical activity, social interaction, and creative expression. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEducation & LivelihoodHow does practicing a work-life balance create a more sustainable life for you? How might it contribute to sustainability more broadly?
Maggie Ruiter 4/28/2023 10:26 AMPracticing work-life balance can create a more sustainable life for you by reducing stress and burnout, improving your health and well-being, and allowing you to pursue personal interests and relationships outside of work. This, in turn, can contribute to sustainability more broadly by promoting individual and community engagement, encouraging sustainable choices, and fostering a sense of purpose and fulfillment. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWhat was one of your most memorable volunteer experiences, and why? What would you like to volunteer for next, and why?
Maggie Ruiter 4/28/2023 10:24 AMVolunteering for little brothers and sisters at Christmas with my family was one of the most memorable experiences. All of the happiness and joy that showed on the elders faces when we showed up bearing gifts was unforgettable. My next volunteering will be with Girl Guides.-
Isabelle Ede 4/29/2023 9:14 AMI volunteered at a non-profit thrift shop here, in the West Island, called Thrift It where I helped build the interior design and go through all the donations. All the revenue went to the adjoining food bank for the less fortunate. Going back and seeing how it is thriving would be great!

REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & EcosystemsWhy is it important to take care of pollinators? Do you have a favorite pollinator?
Maggie Ruiter 4/28/2023 10:21 AMTaking care of pollinators is crucial for maintaining healthy ecosystems and ensuring a sustainable food supply. By protecting and supporting pollinators, we can help to safeguard our environment and ensure a healthy future for ourselves and the planet. Bees and butterflies are my fave.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONEconomy & CommunitiesWhat was the most interesting thing you learned from analyzing your utility bill? What are some ways you can save energy and water?
Maggie Ruiter 4/25/2023 10:30 AMI learned that my household uses a lot less energy than others of the same size and age! We try to dry things by hanging them, only wash in tap water, and always turn of lights when no one is in the room. Our next challenge will be doing laundry and running the dishwasher during lower periods instead of peak periods when it is more convenient. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEconomy & CommunitiesWhat was it like to mend your clothing? If you are skilled at mending, what tips do you have for others?
Maggie Ruiter 4/24/2023 8:39 AMI stuck to mending small holes and buttons as I am not very skilled at mending.... I leave the bigger issues to my husband who is thankfully handy with a sewing machine! -
Maggie Ruiter 4/17/2023 6:33 AMSpent the day with my family outside at the ecomuseum enjoying the sunshine instead of inside in front of the screen. -
Maggie Ruiter 4/13/2023 8:55 AMSuch a beautiful day today to spend extra time outside and away from the screen!
