Mattie's actions
Health & Equity
Communicate Constructively
SDG 16
I will use the communication methods I read about to practice effective, compassionate, and nonviolent communication with someone I interact with regularly (i.e., my roommate, parents, co-worker, partner, classmates, or children).
Education & Livelihood
Work-Life Balance
SDG 8
During the workday, I will schedule time for daily breaks during work days to practice work-life balance.
Health & Equity
Spend Time Outside
SDG 3
I will replace 60 minute(s) per day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside exercising, enjoying the sunrise/sunset, gardening, journaling, or practicing gratitude for nature.
Basic Needs & Security
Take 5-Minute Or Less Showers
SDG 6
I will save up to 6 gallons (23 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers. Tip: Use a timer to practice or count to 60 a few times.
Basic Needs & Security
Know Your Produce
SDG 2
I will become a savvy produce shopper when buying organic and non-organic items.
Education & Livelihood
Plan A Staycation in Your Community
SDG 11
For an upcoming vacation, I will spend 60 minutes planning out a staycation in my region. For reference, one several hour flight releases the equivalent of nearly 14% of the annual emissions from a car.
Economy & Communities
Mend Clothing
SDG 9
I will mend clothing for myself, family or friends.
Climate & Ecosystems
Explore My Area
SDG 14, 15
Each day, I will spend 30 minutes exploring a new area around my neighborhood (e.g., park, water body, nearby trail, community garden, green space, etc.).
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONEducation & LivelihoodHow does practicing a work-life balance create a more sustainable life for you? How might it contribute to sustainability more broadly?
Mattie Rundle 4/03/2023 3:31 PMPracticing a work life balance has shown me to pay more attention to my family and at home needs instead of only focusing on my work. i think if more people balanced life and work and made sure they took more breaks it would help everyone think more clearly and give their brains more time to rest and respond quicker. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhat is easy for you to do when having a constructive conversation and what is challenging? What tips do you have for having a constructive conversation?
Mattie Rundle 4/03/2023 3:29 PMsomething that is easy to do when having a constructive conversation is learning how the other person feels about the situation and how they perceive your feelings. something that is challenging about having a constructive conversation is not getting angry with the other person as they talk to you about the things they dont like that you are doing. My biggest tip for having a constructive conversation would be to be as open and honest about the topic as possible so both parties have a full understanding of the situation. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWith 5-minute or less showers reducing your water footprint, what do you plan to add next to your water conservation habits?
Mattie Rundle 4/03/2023 3:16 PMUsing a water bottle that is refillable instead of constantly throwing away plastic bottles. I also plan to use less water when brushing my teeth.
