How do you anticipate replacing your thermostats for programmable ones will positively impact your life?

My old apartment had a 7 day programmable t-stat with up to 4 different set points per day. I was very spoiled with that and my current apartment only has basic heat cool auto and off modes. Aside from the added comfort in my home and decreased electric bill, its nice to know it will be better for the environment as well.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Economy & Communities
What was it like to mend your clothing? If you are skilled at mending, what tips do you have for others?

    Neil Stimach's avatar
    Neil Stimach 4/25/2023 7:35 AM
It definitely takes some practice but its not as tricky as I thought. I would not say that I am a skilled mender but I can certainly do it.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

What was the dish you made, and how did it turn out? What did it feel like to try a new recipe? If you can share a picture, please do!

I made a tofu stir-fry and it was pretty good. I always like trying new recipes and would recommend.

What surprised you about the two produce lists? How will you use these lists for your grocery shopping? Have you used these lists before?

    Neil Stimach's avatar
    Neil Stimach 4/13/2023 8:30 AM
I felt like I had already known the difference between them so there was no surprises but it will be something to think about more going forward when shopping for produce.

My goals are currently going well. Taking 5 minutes out of my day to sit down and review all of my goals for each day make the entire months goals much more approachable.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health & Equity
What did you watch, and what was the most important thing you learned in the documentaries you watched? How does what you learned connect to your understanding of climate change and Earth Month?

    Neil Stimach's avatar
    Neil Stimach 4/11/2023 7:29 AM
I watched the documentary 'Game Changers' (on Netflix). It was fascinating to learn different points of view on nutrition when it comes to sports and training. It is strange to see a person like Arnold Schwarzenegger who had heavily promoted eating a lot of meat and now is promoting the opposite for different health benefits. It makes your wonder what things you are doing that you feel are necessary but may not be the case.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health & Equity
What was surprising about the ingredients in your cleaning supplies, personal care, and pet products?

    Neil Stimach's avatar
    Neil Stimach 4/11/2023 7:19 AM
I started using baking soda and lemon juice concoctions for cleaning my home and it is surprisingly versatile for cleaning different surface types.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Economy & Communities
What was the most interesting thing you learned from analyzing your utility bill? What are some ways you can save energy and water?

    Neil Stimach's avatar
    Neil Stimach 4/11/2023 7:16 AM
I used a lot less energy than I thought I did. The services charges are typically more than the actual cost of kW usage alone (thank you Oncor charges). I can still do better at using less energy during the day and intend to get a smart thermostat for my apartment to further reduce AC usage as we get into the summer season.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health & Equity
What was it like to practice mindfulness? If this is a practice for you already, what was something new you understood in practicing during Earth Month?

    Neil Stimach's avatar
    Neil Stimach 4/10/2023 1:43 PM
This is not a new practice for me but it is something that I have fallen out of habit of doing. It is nice to set aside some time to not be physically doing anything and just focusing on your mental well being.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Education & Livelihood
How does practicing a work-life balance create a more sustainable life for you? How might it contribute to sustainability more broadly?

    Neil Stimach's avatar
    Neil Stimach 4/10/2023 1:42 PM
Having hobbies and free time and being able to prioritize the life side of the work/life balance is very important to me. Being able to enjoy life outside of work helps promote a healthier work environment.
