REFLECTION QUESTIONEconomy & CommunitiesWhat was it like to mend your clothing? If you are skilled at mending, what tips do you have for others?
Shanell Thomas 4/28/2023 5:19 PMI tend to shop secondhand clothing in general, and I'm not afraid to put in a little work especially if I plan to use the clothes ( usually jeans ) on my farm. Those items have a second life to live in being useful. Often times when I am done with a pair of jeans, I will cut them up to what is still solid on them and utilize them to patch holes in horses winter blankets because the denim is strong. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEconomy & CommunitiesChanging lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! What's next for you?
Shanell Thomas 4/28/2023 5:16 PMI did this as a result of replacing my bathroom lighting fixtures. I purchased a box of LED bulbs and as the regular bulbs burn out around the house I plan to switch over to LEDs only. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhat was it like to practice mindfulness? If this is a practice for you already, what was something new you understood in practicing during Earth Month?
Shanell Thomas 4/16/2023 6:36 PMI tried to change up my normal routine. I utilize guided sleep meditations for mindfulness and better sleep regularly. Because the weather has been so nice, I took the opportunity to try meditating outside in the sunshine and feeling the warmth and breeze on a nice day. It was beautiful although somewhat difficult with the distractions of daily life - cars, dogs, birds etc.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & EcosystemsHow has your access to various kinds of transportation throughout your life influenced your current attitudes about transportation and your transportation behavior?
Shanell Thomas 4/16/2023 6:34 PMI have always lived in the country so friends and I tend to drive separately to things, I do not have a public transport option. My business in addition requires quite a bit of driving and even if people brought their business to me, it would be worse. My little car is more fuel efficient and less impactful than the big trucks people would need to use to haul to me because it would require a trailer. I am not opposed to public transport but I admit that sometimes as a woman, I am uncomfortable traveling in that way.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWhat is one way you will reduce your water use? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your water use?
Shanell Thomas 4/10/2023 6:31 PMI normally leave the water running while I wash the dishes. Rather than doing that I filled the sink then rinsed with running water rather than running it the whole time. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth & EquityWhat are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time inside and on screens?
Shanell Thomas 4/08/2023 6:11 PMWe lose connection to the outdoors, we become disconnected and even afraid of the unknown. This causes humans to care less about the environment. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate & EcosystemsHow is planting trees good for your mental, physical, and spiritual health?
Shanell Thomas 4/08/2023 6:00 PMSpent time planting trees as a volunteer for the ecology action center.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONBasic Needs & SecurityWhat was the dish you made, and how did it turn out? What did it feel like to try a new recipe? If you can share a picture, please do!
Shanell Thomas 4/07/2023 6:09 PMToday I made veg. chili for the first time. I was skeptical that it would taste good without the meat in it but because I like peppers and beans it was pretty good! I will admit, I will make it less spicy next time!-
