Ecological & Xeriscape Gardening

SDG 14, 15

Studies show a grass lawn is water intensive and on average it require about 30 percent of a household’s water consumption. I will do one or more of the following actions in my yard or community to conserve water and improve habitat: plant indigenous plants, landscape with water-efficient plants, add mulching, replace a lawn, and/or use eco-friendly fertilizers.

WSP - Emerge Program

Spend 15 minutes learning about the Emerge Program at WSP. Emerge is WSP's strategic alliance program that seeks early-stage companies with novel solutions as strategic partners. Partners get access to in-house subject matter experts, an opportunity to pilot their products/technologies with WSP during the evaluation phase and have access to our client base. Emerge propels our partners by accelerating the product/technology adoption. Having recently launched our 4th cohort, Emerge has accelerated a number of companies whose mission aligns with UN SDGs. • Olokun Minerals • ecoSPEARS • PLAEX Building Systems

Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health & Equity
Why do you donate food? How does it connect to your values?

    Kristin Uber's avatar
    Kristin Uber 4/13/2023 1:28 PM
because it's the right thing to do... no kids, elderly, disabled, or adults should have to go hungry.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Climate & Ecosystems
Why is it important to take care of pollinators? Do you have a favorite pollinator?

    Kristin Uber's avatar
    Kristin Uber 4/13/2023 1:27 PM
So we have food as well as other animals/insects/etc. And, heck, they're nice to look at and feels good to know you're helping.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Basic Needs & Security
With 5-minute or less showers reducing your water footprint, what do you plan to add next to your water conservation habits?

    Kristin Uber's avatar
    Kristin Uber 4/13/2023 10:12 AM
Not sure as I do conserve in other areas. I'm about to start this years garden, so many put a timer on how long I'm watering (we have a well) to see if I can reduce that without impacting the plants. I use a hose, no drip watering, as I rent.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Basic Needs & Security
What was the tastiest meatless or vegan meal you ever had or had recently? Did you make it? Can you share a recipe?

    Kristin Uber's avatar
    Kristin Uber 4/13/2023 10:10 AM
a simple recipe: scrambled eggs (from free range chickens at homestead next door), some nutritional yeast & coconut aminos, and green beans.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Climate & Ecosystems
Do you think YellowTin will be useful?

    Kristin Uber's avatar
    Kristin Uber 4/12/2023 11:40 AM
No options in my area with YellowTin. Disappointing.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health & Equity
What was surprising about the ingredients in your cleaning supplies, personal care, and pet products?

    Kristin Uber's avatar
    Kristin Uber 4/12/2023 11:38 AM
simpler than I imagined and I appreciate knowing exactly what's in them now.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Basic Needs & Security
What is one way you will reduce your water use? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your water use?

    Kristin Uber's avatar
    Kristin Uber 4/11/2023 7:45 AM
had never heard of virtual water before, and shocked at how much water some things take... like dog food!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Climate & Ecosystems
What is one way you will reduce your carbon footprint? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your carbon footprint?

    Kristin Uber's avatar
    Kristin Uber 4/11/2023 7:36 AM
I was surprised by my carbon results.... and as I rent and have a car that's paid off, there is little I can do on some of the bigger offenders. When the car reaches end of life, I can make a better choice... and same goes for if I'm able to purchase a home.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Climate & Ecosystems
What did you watch, and what was the most important thing you learned in the documentary(ies) you watched? How does what you learned connect to your understanding of climate change and Earth Month?

    Kristin Uber's avatar
    Kristin Uber 4/06/2023 1:23 PM
Paradise Lost and Earthstorm: Tornados, Volcanos, Earthquakes, and Hurricanes. Interesting, well balanced with visuals, scientific information, as well as the personal side and impact of these types of events. Learned of the importance of taking steps to stop and reverse damage to the planet. Knew that, but these films provided more inspiration.
