We are doing through a switch to a new water utility company. They are charging high fees to convert the system presently in place and it is detrimental to our budget. To minimize the impact, we have had to take "Navy showers" to conserve water usage. Also, we are trying not to use lights unless absolutely necessary. We are trying to utilize natural light as much as possible. Also, we make sure we unplug any appliances that are not presently in usage (ie coffee maker or toaster). Once brewed or toasted, we unplug to minimize the draw of electricity.

I've had past experience doing this activity in the Boy Scouts of America. Be prepared...is a worthy cause. It's comforting and calming to anticipate and know what needs to be done before it happens.

As an Eagle Scout, I adhere to the concept of conservation and stewards of the land. The ecochallenge has some actions that fit into the same approach.
