Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Basic Needs & Security
What surprised you about the two produce lists? How will you use these lists for your grocery shopping? Have you used these lists before?

What surprised me was how we can help sustain the fish population by purchasing them frozen. Not only will it help with over fishing but it can be better for us as well as help us eat seafood more regularly. The pesticide article was daunting because I eat fruit all the time and most of the fruit I enjoy, blueberries, grapes, and strawberries are on the top pesticide exposed list...along with the "healthy" greens we're suppose to eat. So my question is, why is the option to eat healthier, without pesticide, unattainable to the majority of the population?

I have chosen to give up driving for almost four year to reduce my carbon footprint. This also gave me an opportunity to get to know the community where I live, work, and enjoy.

instead of having my husband drop me off or take ride share, I walked to the grocery store today with my reusable bag. I also had to be intentional as to what I bought since I will be carrying them and only had 1 bag with me
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

How does practicing a work-life balance create a more sustainable life for you? How might it contribute to sustainability more broadly?

By having work-life balance, I am able to be intentional with my actions which will ultimately become a habit. This means getting enough sleep, eating healthy and regularly exercise because without the healthy mind, we can't live a sustainable life
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Education & Livelihood
How do you create new sustainability-related habits or change bad habits?

I love the idea of repurposing what's considered a single-use product and I have to credit my mom for exposing this to me early on in my life. But more importantly, I have been as well as encouraging my husband not to get anything extra if and when we order food and certainly not take a plastic utensil and we even hesitate when it's compostable because although it will decompose at some point, it's not soon enough.

I have a favorite, super easy goto recipe with 5 ingredients. It's sautéed shrimp with fresh tomatoes, jalapeños, and garlic tossed in angel hair. Found this recipe over 10 years ago and first recipe that my hubby consistently asks for when we're having a night of don't know what food we're in the mood for. Everything is fresh and accept for the pasta, I am able to buy everything from the local market that's in walking distance:)
