Today I helped people in the community shop at the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. Got to talk to a few and learn their story. Kinda sad. But, today is my birthday and in a way, it was a great gift to receive.

What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time inside and on screens?

A lot easier said than done to get outside. Especially with a purpose to just enjoy being outside. Normally I'm outside because of a project. Not really enjoying the planet. It's near impossible to get my kids outside too. They get bored instantly without their phones. I thank Steve Jobs for messing up generations of kids.

What is easy for you to do when having a constructive conversation and what is challenging? What tips do you have for having a constructive conversation?

What is challenging is believing that people will remember what we discuss and do what they say they will do. What's easy for me is my approach. I always frame things like everything is fixable. That we'll work on things together.

How does practicing a work-life balance create a more sustainable life for you? How might it contribute to sustainability more broadly?

This is usually ridiculously for me. I tend not to prioritize any time as me time. But I'm trying. My approach is to continue to shorten the amount of time each night that I spend getting caught up on work. I'm up to about 15 minutes of time back to me.

What was it like to practice mindfulness? If this is a practice for you already, what was something new you understood in practicing during Earth Month?

I have begun using a device called "Mendi". It is a headband worn to help with focus and concentration. It definitely helps in practicing mindfulness. My mind wanders a ton. Slowly this is helping me to eliminate distractions.
