I watched three different movies about gender issues. I continue to be amazed and disappointed that we are unable to effectively share all we can offer; how we don't listen well to people that are different from us. It is especially important to realize that we need input from everyone, everywhere to solve the climate crisis we have created.

I typically read more than I watch so I intentionally chose fiction books tis month that revolve around climate change and nature topics. The most recent book I finished was about logging families in Redwood forests in California, and how their communities had to change as deforestation was recognized.

How do we get more than 94 people at AspenTech (about 2.5% of the people) to participate in something like this? Initiatives like this are important to make Sustainability more than a marketing exercise, but instead a way for the organization to think about its outward face to the world, and it would seem to start with every person's own...

Here is the link to the globe article on rising sea levels: https://www.bostonglobe.com/2023/04/29/science/climate-change-mbta-sea-level-rise/?s_campaign=bostonglobe:push:web

Boston, a coastline harbor city (one of the oldest trade locations in the US) has an upcoming climate problem. The only building in Boston built so far with rising coastlines in mind, is the new Casino opened a couple of years ago (I guess the idea is people can gamble while the city floods). An interesting article in today's Boston Globe...

Trees capture CO2, but other plants do too. Grasslands also contribute to CO2 capture. Although in the current CO2 accounting and credit methodologies, trees "count" for carbon removal and grasslands don't, grasslands are also important. A recent study performed in California show that with the uptick in major forest fires in...

Reflection question as this ecochallenge month is ending. Developing a new habit is not easy. It helps if you are not doing it alone: ecochallenge is an example, where we all made a committment as a group and we have that pressure from the group to do our part. But I think that the most important thing it to realize that the process of...

I think we don't share enough about the importance of supporting pollinators in area. Today I spent some time reading about how to help create good environments for pollinators and (again) the importance of local species. This guidance document had many useful tips.

As the last working week of earth month just ended, this work-lufe balance reflection seems adequate. By scheduling lunch breaks and a daily 30 min pause at work, I was less stressed and felt like more focused to get things done. These breaka also helped to strengthen interactions with colleagues and make friends. I had become very reclusive...

Reflection question: spending most of the time inside and on screens is not good for mental and physical health. This does not mean that we need to run marathons and go hiking every other day, but just move our limbs and enjoythe outdoors will have significant health benefits. In the longer (and macro) term, a healthy society will also put less...
