What did you watch, and what was the most important thing you learned in the documentaries you watched? How does what you learned connect to your understanding of climate change and Earth Month?

I watched half on the documentary titled, “Wasted!” With the late great Anthony Bourdain. I had to rent it online via Amazon video and forgot to continue within the 2 day rental so I didn’t get to finish it. Hoping we could do a watching party on this documentary since you have to pay to watch (unless some one knows where to find it free online).

A big claim I noted was this
    • Food wasted is unbelievably high and has a major effect on climate change. Double whammy! “In the absence of oxygen, food waste decomposes to methane which is 23% more powerful as a greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide, and yet 90% of food waste goes to landfills.”

RIP to the GOAT. I love Anthony Bourdain. If you havent reach Kitchen Confidential I highly recommend it! I liked the quote you threw in there... I never knew that and it is very good to know. Ill check out Wasted!

    My little plogger
I’m kind of surprised my son has picked up this habit of picking up trash and putting it in the trash can. It started while Little Jon and I were waiting for his mom at a grocery store. To kill time I started playing a game to pick up the pieces of (relatively clean) paper on the ground and see if he can put it in the trash bu simply asking. Now, he just does it own his own. I can’t believe this kid sometimes. I do try to be mindful of the area and what’s he’s picking up but generally speaking.. I don’t want to stop doing this lol

Had an amazing Earth Day hanging outside with friends, exploring our neighborhood and finding a cool historic house that had a small public garden where we could chill with our dogs. The weather was warm and rainy which was a beautiful refreshing feeling!

Happy Earth Day! We signed up with Adopt-one-block (https://www.adoptoneblock.org/) and picked a block in our neighborhood. We'll try to talk a plalk (pick-up litter walk) once/week.

My daughter found a metal toy horse in the gutter. She was stoked. :)

How does practicing a work-life balance create a more sustainable life for you? How might it contribute to sustainability more broadly?

It gives me more energy and happiness throughout the day. Today I would take little breaks to play a game of ping pong in the office and it would give me a nice fresh breather from work. When I would come back to my desk I would have more motivation to be productive and get back into drafting and working on my projects. Having a balance during my day helps me stay focused and mindful about what I am doing and why I am doing it. Also thanks to our great Seattle Wellness team we have been doing yoga in the office once a week and that has been a huge help in keeping me relaxed and happy throughout the work day.

What is one way you will reduce your carbon footprint? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your carbon footprint?

Reviewing hybrid and EV vehicles as I am driving more with my current job than I was previously. One practice that helps reduce my footprint is by recycling and taking the train when I need to go to Portland vice flying!

Yay! I just talked to another co-worked about how nice it is to take the train down from Seattle to Portland. And you have the freedom to read and/or do some work on the way down.

If you can swing it, jump in an go with the full EV! Near zero-maintenance, costs 10% as much to drive as a non hybrid gas car. Lots of good options and incentives available now too. We haven't had a gas car in 4.5 years. Don't miss it at all.
