Good morning, everyone and welcome to the final day of the Eco-Challenge! It's been a great month, and I hope you all have learned a lot about how little changes can make a significant impact. The final creature for this challenge is the common snapping turtle (Chelydra serpentina). This is Darla, who is a rare example of an albino in the species. Common snapping turtles are found throughout the southern United States and are more prevlanent than their larger cousins, the alligator snapping turtle. Despite that, their bite force is nothing to scoff at, delivering greater newtons per bite than the alligator snapping turtles. These turtles are typically shy, avoiding confrontation and run-ins with humans - Darla being an exception as she will defend her territory unless she knows it is time to be fed.

I should have posted this a lot sooner, but better late than never. This is the flag I made for our team, at the request of Doug. My inspiration for this flag was the famous Earthrise photo taken by the crew of Apollo 8. Earthrise is widely considered one of the most important photos of the 20th Century Environmental Movement. It showed our planet as an island of life in a barren cosmic sea, and that really spoke to a lot of people. And I certainly hope everyone likes this flag.
