Woodard & Curran: Team Earth Feed

BACK TO TEAM PAGE

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

This last weekend, a friend was able to give me a hand building raised garden beds. Got 2/3s of them done, along with some plantings.

What is one way you will reduce your water use? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your water use?

Moving forward, I will try to be more conscious of the amount of time I let the water run while washing dishes. It doesn't take long to waste water.

How have you reduced your purchasing habits and what would you like to do next to reduce your consumption habits?

I have definitely tried to reduce the amount of times I purchase coffee when I'm running errands. I have tried to adapt the mindset that buying coffee should be a fun little treat or pick me up rather than an everday occurrence. Making coffee at home is cheaper, quicker, and more sustainable!

I've been trying to be more conscious about the waste I create and have invested in Stasher reusable sandwich and snack bags, as well as glass straws. I also bring my own water bottle wherever I go or grab a glass cup from the kitchen at work to stay hydrated.

I went on a lovely hike on April 22 (EARTH DAY)!

My foster dog and I have been enjoying getting out and about, especially now that Spring is starting to Spring! It's also been allowing me to discover strange new places where litter exists. Today, we found a Richard Simmons DVD in the woods. Tomorrow, we have a neighborhood clean-up, and I am making note of all of the hidden spots I've found to hit to tidy!

What was the tastiest meatless or vegan meal you ever had or had recently? Did you make it? Can you share a recipe?

I had Thai lettuce wraps with avocado from the Cheesecake Factory today! They were delicious and also a dish that can be super easy to replicate at home.

We've reached the half halfway point of Earth Month!!! I'm excited to see what my teammates have done so far. What changes or habits have you implemented into your daily life? Which ones have you tried, but wouldn't stick, and why? I'm switched all of my cleaning products and tools to either be plastic-free, reusable, or healthier for my family. I've also changed my search engine from Google to Ecosia ("more you search – the more trees we plant").

I have been very bad about remembering to log in here to update! For Earth Month, I have been very conscious about making sure that everything that can be composted, does get composted (unless it can be fed to chickens, in which case, the chickens get some dietary diversity!).

I made Vegetarian Spring Rolls! A very low impact lunch with only the rice paper coming in plastic wrap! All of my veggies were wrap free. I also made a peanut sauce to dip in with items I already had in my house!

Worked at a local farm this weekend in exchange for a share of fresh produce, from which we made a meat-free meal.
